Mary, age 30, lives with her stepfather and half-siblings; and since her mother died has raised the children, some of them still quite young, though the eldest, Edith, is now age 20. The whole household is excited by the pending arrival of a stranger - Mary's half-brother, who is not actually related to anyone in the household besides Mary. Edith has had daydreams about Mary's brother, but may be in for a surprise. Mary is going to be surprised too.
